On a cliff, high above the ocean - the best of the Wairarapa beaches!

We wind our way along the southern coast of the North Island visiting some of the amazing sights and exploring the offroad tracks that hug the hills in an epic weekend trip out to the Wairarapa. Starting the day at Ocean Beach, we head along to Lake Ferry, Whangaimoana Beach then out to Palliser for an amazing night camping under the stars.

Ocean Beach

Another of the North Island's rugged south coast spots, Ocean Beach is an amazing drive on a nice day. A rough gravel track with a few small river crossing and a view that's hard to beat. You can even spend an evening at Corner Creek Campsite.

Whangaimoana Beach

A short bit of beach track along the cliffs at Whangaimoana. Nice place to spend a few hours hanging out on the beach. The mud in the middle could be challenging depending on the rain recently, well worth getting out and checking before heading through.

Cape Palliser

Drive along the southernmost tip of the North Island. The track starts relatively easy and gets tricker the further you head in - we highly suggest not heading beyond the sand dune area unless you're with people and experienced.

Remember to stay on the track and respect seasonale closures as you're crossing private land - we don't want to lose access to the track!

Stone Wall

Super basic campsite with a swimming hole. Best avoided during a strong southerly.
